Support for reducing lottery draws on the gambling industry

Press Statement

Member of Parliament of Bakri issued a statement, expressed support for the Penang Chief Minister YB Lim Guan Eng for reducing the number of lottery draws from 10 to six a week.

Corrupt social values invasion

Chinese rampant gambling, the social problems that have created severe corrosion of our society's values. Er Teck Hwa pointed out that the
Barisan Nasional Government should seriously look into the issue of gambling in order to prevent the younger generation to make the same mistakes and foot caught in mud. The problems caused by gambling, such as estranged husband and wife and children out of school, family breakdown, illegal credit (loan sharks), 'Ah Long', murdering and other issues, can be read from the news from time to time. Rural areas is also affected, resulting in a vicious circle.

Barisan Nasional government into gambling addiction

Er Teck Hwa, said he understood many aimed at gambler's mentality as 'all of a sudden fortune' , but would like to 'buy hope', but those do not able to extricate themselves. As a result, limiting the number of lottery draws is absolutely for the benefit of the people. The gambling industry's increasingly diversified operations, including the game and election results, and so on, so that people in gambling ranks the world's top ten. At the same time, the gambling problem is not unique to the Chinese community, during the draw day for the major lotto games, the whole nation is submersed themselves into gambling! He criticized the Barisan Nasional government of turning a blind eye to the gambling industry to flourish, in fact they had been addicted to the tax money from the gambling industry.

Life is priceless

Restrictions on the gambling industry is not a conservative idea, although the law of the entire gambling industry could bring billions of tax revenue. However, in a democratic society, everyone lives in harmony and every single family are exchangeable with wealth, and substantial tax return can not be a happy family. Though Er Teck Hwa considered playing the lottery once a while to be "entertainment", however, take into account the economic downturn will be exacerbated by gambling, at the same time the amendment to the values of pathological gambling wealth, he hoped that the people support the party's call for action to shaping the next generation to bear hardships of the traditional virtues!
